Aftermath And Poppycock
Two of Santa’s backup reindeer, Aftermath and Poppycock, listen to the stories from those who spent the night and early morning flying all over the world.
They hear about the landings, the takeoffs, the near crashes, the wind, the snow, the birds, the planes, the children, the cold, the adrenaline, the thrill and the speed.
Aftermath and Poppycock are jealous, to be sure. But they are also grateful. Because while the other reindeer were away, and the elves were asleep, Aftermath and Poppycock had the whole North Pole to themselves.
They flew high into the wild blue yonder and buzzed over the polar bears. They skipped across the northern lights and tripped the light fantastic.
They were, for a few hours, the only two angels in a heaven of snow and night.
Someday they’ll pull that sleigh. But that day won’t be better than the night before. --TK
